Our Itineraries

We have created three itineraries that will easily allow you to have an intimate experience of this beautiful piece of land. From art to gastronomy here our ‘posti del cuore’.

torino-getty-1080x810.jpg

1 day in Torino

Turin is presented as the small Paris, elegant, rich, and photogenic thanks to its noble palaces and historic cafes. With the Alps in the background, it shines as a cultural destination.

only 40 minutes away from Villa Rosa by highway, you will arrive in the center of Turin. I recommend parking your car comfortably here:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/56d6HTmSWmaXSuBF7?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy

You will find yourself in Via Lagrange, an elegant pedestrian street full of boutiques and restaurants.

The Italian multi-store La Rinascente offers the best of Italian fashion and design brands, while a few meters ahead you will find Eataly, now famous worldwide for food enthusiasts. A few steps further, it is worth trying the traditional Turin gianduiotto from Guido Gobino, a master chocolatier.

Now head to Piazza San Carlo, considered the ‘salotto’ of Turin, dating back to the 1600s. In its historic cafes, philosophers, aristocrats, and intellectuals used to meet in the past and still today, an espresso at the counter of Caffè Stratta will allow you to see the best of Turin elegance. Recently opened, Galleria Italia offers an interesting calendar of exhibitions mainly of photography and art.

The San Carlo store, despite having downsized over the years, offers an authentic Turin boutique experience and is where the Visionary Giorgina Siviere has been dressing the most elegant Turin women for 50 years.

From here, you can walk through the luxurious shopping street of Via Roma with high fashion brands like Hermès or Gucci.

For a quick lunch, try the Piedmontese tramezzino at Caffè Mulassano. Continuing on, you can visit the Royal Palace and its gardens, Palazzo Madama, reach the Antoniana Tower and Piazza Vittorio with a view of the numerous rowing clubs that live on the romantic Po River.

Make a stop for creamy and authentic gelato at Gelateria Niva.

An aperitif is a must for a glass of the historic Vermouth liqueur seated at the bar Farmacia in Piazza Carignano. To get there, you will walk through the Subalpine Gallery, a jewel of the 1800s reserved for bourgeois leisure since then.

Do not miss the opportunity to visit the automobile museum dedicated to Gianni Agnelli, founder of the FIAT automotive company.

Our favorite restaurants in Turin are: Scannabue, Pastificio de Filippis, Consorzio, I Tre Galli.

1 day in Monferrato

Proclaimed as a UNESCO World Heritage site only in 2016, Monferrato still maintains all the authenticity and simplicity of the Italian countryside.

The soft hills, cultivated with vineyards, hazelnuts and corn, make the territory of Monferrato perfect for be explored by bike starting directly from Villa Rosa.

The star of the area is Ruchè, a native DOCG vineyard produced within the seven neighboring municipalities. Rubino color and elegant, I recommend starting your day by booking a tasting at the Cordero Winary. On their website where you can also find self-guided treks among the vineyards, or if arranged in advance, horseback rides. In the afternoon, there are many villages to visit, although the Montemagno castle is only open for visits a few months a year, the view from there is priceless. If you are lucky, discover where the traditional local sport of Tambas is played on Sundays. For lunch, I like to go to Vignale at the Universo restaurant where elegantly presented appetizers, desserts, and cheeses are still served from a cart. Have your table set outside if the weather permits to enjoy a breathtaking view or go turtle hunting with your children. If you prefer a simpler stop, with local and 'cucina sincera', then Bar Roma in Moncalvo is the place for you. Before heading home, it is a must to stop for a take-away dinner at Pastificio Baracco, a mecca of the most authentic Piedmontese cuisine. In addition to fresh tajarin and agnolotti, you can take home anchovies in green sauce, friciulin, vitello tonnato, piedmontese tomes, and much more. The aperitif is to be enjoyed in Moleto, a village nestled in tuff where you will find the romantic Bar Chiuso hosting many concerts and events during the summer.

1 day in Langhe

The best way to fully enjoy the wine landscape of the Langhe is to take one of the many marked walks between Monforte d'Alba, Barolo, and La Morra. Our favorite is the M2 trail that starts from the village of La Morra and allows us to return in time for lunch at Osteria Veglio. In the center of Monforte, besides a delicious gelateria, you will find the tourist office that distributes maps and great advice on other paths to walk or bike depending of your needs and level.

In the afternoon, don't miss a visit to one of the many wineries producing Barolo, Barbaresco, and Nebbiolo. I recommend Cordero di Montezemolo, Ceretto, Vietti and  Cantina Ratti. Always book well in advance. You can get a preview of the history of this great wine by watching the documentary "Barolo Boys".

We owe the cultural and artistic scene of the Langhe to the Ceretto family when they hosted artists like Sol LeWitt and David Tremlett to transform the small chapel of Barolo into an art installation.

To end your day, I suggest taking a walk in Barbaresco, buying some wine at the social winery inside the 20th-century church, and finishing with an aperitivo at Bistrot della Torre to enjoy a wonderful sunset over the vineyards.

Other restaurants I recommend: Trattoria della Posta, Terrazza di Renza, Locanda Fontanazza, Osteria il Cortile.
